Try a newer version of Ubuntu or try installing it to an external hard drive perhaps to try out and apply all updates, reboot, and see if that helps.
Some wifi cards work out of the box, and others don't. Let us know what card there is. That will produce the output, that we'd very much like to see, so please, add it to the original question.
